Computer-Based Independent Study Students who wish to repeat a class for credit that is not offered as a classroom course may take the class on line through Brigham Young University by using computers in the SJND library. The library will be reserved for students taking these courses and will be supervised during the study time. Students taking the BYU coursework must do so on campus during the summer school hours in a supervised setting in the library. Please be sure that you have selected an online course with the assistance of your counselor because not all online courses are college or SJND acceptable.
Students should first select and pay for the course(s) they wish to take from the BYU web site located at http://ce.byu.edu/is/site/courses/. They then may sign up for Library Access for BYU courses using the SJND Summer School Registration Form. Once they are signed up, they may use the supervised computers in the library Monday through Friday, June 16 through July 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Online independent study course will have assignments and interim tests including a final written examination. Regardless of scores on assignments and interim tests, failure of the final examination will result in a failing grade for the class.
$150 for full six-week access to supervised library.
Calendar: Summer school begins on June 16 for all students with an orientation meeting in Notre Dame Hall at 8:30 a.m. For classroom programs, summer school ends July 25. There will be no classes on July 4.
Registration: Return the application form and a deposit of $50 for each class to the SJND office by June 4. The balance of the tuition is due on or before the first day of classes.
Tuition: As noted on the application form.
Credit: Students who are in grades 10, 11, or 12 may earn one semester of credit for summer school classes. A student must pass his/her summer school class with a grade of “C” or better in order to receive credit. Failure to receive credit could jeopardize the student’s opportunity to return to SJND.
Attendance: Students are expected to be in class every day of summer school. Any more than one absence will affect the student’s grade and may mean loss of credit. All absences must be cleared with a note from parents upon return to school. Student illnesses are considered excused. Medical or dental appointments should be made outside the summer school day. Family vacations and/or athletic competitions are NOT excused absences.
Discipline & Wardrobe: Common principles of punctuality, courtesy, and respect are expected and will be enforced. Dress can be casual; however, there can be no tank tops, shorts, or sandals. Any infraction of these basic rules can result in detention or immediate dismissal from summer school. Specific policies will be given to your student prior to the first day of classes on June 16.
