Ninety eight percent of SJND graduates go on to college, and college success is important at SJND. More than $2.69 million in merit-based scholarships and awards was offered to the Class of 2011, and the graduating seniors finalized their college choices to include the Ivy League, California's top universities and the nation's elite private universities.
Throughout a student's time at SJND, they follow a path to college:
Counselors meet regularly one-on-one with students and often with their parents.
The school hosts evening sessions for families on college financial aid.
Another college prep session addresses how to apply to the University of California system.
The school offers a unique presentation by SJND alumni who are college freshmen and who return to campus to share their experiences.
Each fall, the department arranges dozens of visits to campus by college representatives.
Family Connection from Naviance
SJND has also adopted a Web-based program called Family Connection from Naviance to help students manage their college search. Family Connection allows students to track and analyze data about college and career plans. Students can sign-up for college visits, keep track of application deadlines, build a resume, research colleges, manage applications and access the Common Application, College Board and SAT/ACT online.
