All students are encouraged to participate in one or more of the sports teams that are offered at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School.
A key component of the athletics program is to develop skills that will contribute to success in a variety of endeavors in college and life. Students also take one and a half years of physical education classes.
Student athletes at SJND take their commitment to team and to school work seriously.
Each year, SJND has more than 125 scholar athletes who earn a 3.5 unweighted GPA or above.
In addition, more than half of the athletic teams are honored annually as Distinguished Scholastic Teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
At least 10 teams each year earn post-season playoff appearances in the competitive Tri-County Athletic League, including cross country, volleyball, track and baseball.
The men's and women's basketball teams are part of a storied program, with the men winning a record four state titles, most recently in 2011.
"I play basketball and softball because it keeps me on track in school, and I have to maintain a high GPA to play. And I want to play in college," says Samantha Maritzen '12.
