9th Grade Summer Flight

July 17th - 28th, 2023

Welcome to SJND’s 9th Grade Summer Flight program for the Class of 2027!

Our comprehensive Summer Flight program offerings include Math and Science Readiness classes, a Writing Workshop, and Community Building and Study Skills workshops, which aim to set our new Pilots up for success while also meeting new classmates.

This two-week free Summer Flight program for incoming ninth graders will assist in their acclimation to the Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School environment. Summer Flight spots are limited, so please use this simple form to register for this important program.

Community Building and Study Skills

Build community and friendships with fellow future Pilots and learn study skills from our Academic Support Coordinator, Mrs. Mary Ellen Proctor! These skills will give students the foundation for high school success. Mrs. Proctor will cover how to stay organized, how to appropriately use technology in service of learning, how to communicate with teachers, and how to develop the proper habits for high school and beyond.

Math Readiness

In the Math Readiness session, students will improve their division, multiplication, addition and subtraction skills working with whole numbers, decimals and fractions to prepare for high school math. Students strengthen their quantitative foundation, critical thinking and problem solving skills while boosting their confidence and readiness to start the new year. This session is taught by Mrs. Allie Fralick.

Science Readiness

In the Science Readiness session, students strengthen their laboratory, basic mathematics and study skills. They learn how to make quantitative and qualitative observations while using the scientific method to explore real-world phenomena. This session is taught by Ms. Akaela Magno-Ordinario.

English Readiness and Writing Workshop

In the English Readiness and Writing Workshop session, students will develop the skills necessary to be critical readers and competent writers. Students will learn how to develop strong thesis statements, introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. Students will learn to self-assess their writing, to set goals for themselves, and to work with deliberateness to improve their writing. This session is taught by Ms. Colette Gunn-Graffy.
