Daily, the sights and sounds of music, theater, and visual arts fill the halls of our campus as student artists develop skills, methods of practice, historical knowledge, multicultural awareness, and self-directed learning in the arts.

Our newly launched VAPA Pathway Program offers students who desire to take four years of arts coursework an opportunity to distinguish their outstanding commitment to the arts by creating collaborative teams to support all of our arts programs and present a Capstone Performance in their senior year.

Ultimately, the department teaches that the arts are fundamental and essential to the education of the whole person, and we use both state and national standards to guide our curriculum.  We train our students to become advocates and patrons of the arts in our culture, and to embody the mission of SJND as confident, open-minded, and effective leaders who are ready to live joyful lives of faith, scholarship, and service.

Two years (20 units) of Visual and Performing Arts are required for graduation. Unless otherwise noted, all Visual and Performing Arts courses are UC-approved as college-preparatory core/elective courses.

School life is invigorated through art exhibits, musical concerts, and theatrical performances, showcasing the skills, talents, and abilities of our VAPA students to communicate effectively through the arts.Mark Ritter, Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair
