SJND Athletics – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- How do I register my student-athlete for a sport?
Registration opens on July 1 each year. All athletes must register via our online portal and submit a physician-signed physical dated on or after that date. No participation—and no access to tryouts—without both completed registration and physical clearance.
- If my student wants to play multiple sports, do they need multiple physicals?
No. A current physical dated on or after July 1 is valid for all sports through the school year—it covers fall, winter, and spring seasons.
- What are the policies around attendance & academic eligibility?
SJND athletes are held to high expectations in the classroom. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required to participate. Falling below results in probation and may limit participation until improvement is demonstrated.
- How can families connect with coaches or ask sport-specific questions?
Each coach’s contact information is available on our Athletics website by sport. Parents are encouraged to reach out directly but may cc the Athletic Director for urgent matters.
- How do team schedules and scores get posted?
Our athletics schedule is shared online with coaches and families via the SJND.org website, MaxPreps or similar platforms. Results and updates are maintained regularly throughout the season.
- What volunteer roles are available?
Families can get involved in concessions, ticketing, ushering, and logistics—after student-athlete and student-leader helpers have filled roles. Student leadership roles include team managers, event staff, sports media ambassadors, and more. Faculty and parents remain crucial for ticketing and crowd management, especially during high‑risk events.
- Is mental health support available to student-athletes?
Yes. St. Joseph Notre Dame offers mental performance coaching to student-athletes, including confidence building and stress management. SJND is exploring similar partnerships and resources.
- What happens if a team frequently misses games?
In CIF/NCS leagues, persistent forfeits or non-competitive seasons can result in removal from future schedules. We evaluate participation carefully to ensure teams are viable and committed.
- Are tryouts open to all skill levels?
Yes! Our offerings—such as Cross Country, Flag Football (club), and certain Fall teams—serve all levels of experience. Coach communication is encouraged for newcomers or athletes returning from injury to help ensure proper support.
- Where can I find info about uniforms, gear, and sponsorships?
Varsity teams have new Adidas uniforms already ordered for the upcoming year. Details on distribution, sizing, and storage will be shared with families at Family Sports Meetings prior to the start of each season. Supplementary gear requests should go through Athletics.
