Alum Creates Winning Design for Charity Race

Ernest McMurry

Ernest McMurry '13 was the winner of the annual design contest for the T-shirt for the 2013 charity run to benefit the Alameda's Midway Shelter in December.

The design was for an assignment he completed while he was a senior at SJND. The charity run benefits Alameda’s Midway Crisis Shelter for Women and Children, and it is managed by Mark and Cynthia Hovermale, parents of Andrew ’14.

Over the past several years, the design contest has been part of a service project for students in Art 2, Digital Illustration, after teacher Andy McKee met with the Hovermales and decided to integrate the project into his class curriculum. Past winners include Jackson Sundheim '15 , Jacqueline Hitchcock '14, and co-designers Giulia Marinos '14 and Jill Taylor '14.
