Alum of the Month: J. Earl “Bud” Medeiros ‘58 – Jefferson Award Recipient

SJND Alum J. Earl "Bud" Medeiros was featured in an Jefferson Award segment on KPIX-TV.

Last month, SJND alum J. Earl “Bud” Medeiros ’58 received a Jefferson Award for his work with Delta Community Services, or DCS, a non-profit serving seniors, families and individuals in Far East Contra Costa County. DCS is “helping people help themselves” by providing human resources services and referrals, as well as donated household items.

After graduating from SJND in June, 1958, Medeiros attended St. Mary’s College in Moraga.

“Math/Physics were my special interests in studies at St. Joe's. I carried this interest into college,” said Medeiros. Those interests would help influence a long-term career in the Information Technology field.

Medeiros first had the opportunity to work in IT at Kaiser Aluminum Corp. Following a stint with Kaiser, he moved to Hawaii where he joined IBM as a member of the systems consulting group. “That’s where I spent most of my career,” explained Medeiros, “IBM transferred me many times from Hawaii to locations in the Mainland.”

Medeiros went on to work for Apple and Intel before retiring in 2000 and moving to Discovery Bay. “That's where and when I got involved with Delta Community Services,” he explained.

Having been involved with DCS for 17 years, Medeiros now serves as President of the organization.
