Breeanna Decker '10 is This Year's Dream Flight Keynote Speaker
Breeanna Decker, a 2010 graduate of Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School, will serve as the 2018 Dream Flight Keynote Speaker.
As the Opportunity Youth Initiative Program Associate at Urban Strategies Council, Breeanna works to strengthen cross-sector coordination and collaboration in order to assist persons ages 18-24 in their transition to post-secondary education and career opportunities. Founded in 1987, Oakland-based Urban Strategies Council is focused on improving outcomes for children and families in Oakland and the East Bay. Prior to joining the Council, Breeanna served as an intern for two locally-elected officials: Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson and Oakland City Councilmember Lynette McElhaney.
Passionate about youth and education, Breeanna has worked with Lincoln (formerly Lincoln Child Center) and the Children’s Defense Fund’s Freedom Schools, assessing the reading levels of West Oakland public school students. She is also a mentor with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Oakland-Bay Area Chapter’s Positive Steps Program.
At SJND, Breeanna was involved with the Women’s Basketball Team and African American Student Association (AASA). Following high school, she studied sociology at Santa Clara University and went on to receive her M.A. in Public Affairs from the University of San Francisco.
We look forward to hearing Breeanna speak about her SJND experience and her work in the local community at the sold-out Dream Flight Gala on October 13 at the Claremont Country Club.
