Building Positive Community in Life and Online
This past month, we kicked off #GOPILOTS: our community-wide effort to educate our parents, students, faculty and staff about savvy use of social media and what it means to be a digital citizen.
The November events, one for students and one for parents, featured M3 Rock n' Talk's band Dr. Iven. The student event was a high energy, inspirational performance. Band members engaged students in song and dance contests, featured student singers Chloe Baquirin and Ruben Gonzalez, and wove into all performances important messages about kindness, positivity and reputation in life and online.
The event served as a warm-up for more intensive work to come on the topic of online reputation. This spring, we will dedicate time for our school counselors to lead small group discussions with all students. In these, students will explore real life scenarios and best practices vis-à-vis online engagement.
Through ongoing efforts like these, with the help of our mindful community, we look forward to helping our students embrace and grow public profiles that showcase their achievements, passions, interests and strength of character--elements that in turn shape and grow our community of Pilot pride.
