Class of 2020 Pilots Honored in Graduation Car Procession
For the first time in nearly three months, the stretch of Chestnut Street in Alameda between San Antonio and San Jose Avenues lit up in a sea of blue and orange, as the SJND community came together to celebrate the 113 members of the Class of 2020 with a special graduation car procession concluding at 1011 Chestnut Street.
On the morning of May 30, what would have been the day of the Class of 2020’s previously-scheduled commencement ceremony— now scheduled for August 1— a line of cars carrying SJND seniors and their families departed the Bladium Sports & Fitness Club parking lot and wound their way across Alameda to the SJND campus. There, SJND Faculty and Staff lined the street to cheer on the graduates as they rolled down Chestnut street in their elaborately-decorated vehicles.
The graduates waved from car windows and sunroofs as their teachers, counselors and coaches congratulated them from a distance. It was also an opportunity for the graduates to see their classmates, whom they hadn’t seen— except for over Zoom or social media— in months.
"The graduation parade/procession was amazing," said Maryanne Stehr, SJND counselor and mother of 2020 graduate Jack Stehr. "It was a beautiful, fun, vibrant, loving way to honor our seniors. I felt so happy and proud to be an SJND parent and part of our staff community," she added.
We look forward to continuing celebrations for the Class of 2020 with Baccalaureate Mass planned for July 30 and a formal Commencement Ceremony on August 1. Congrats, graduates!
