Cross Country and Tennis Bring Home Gold Again!

Cross Country:

At last week’s CIF State Cross Country Championship in Fresno, Cooper Teare ’17 and Kiera Marshall ’17 both dominated their races to take home State Champion titles. Cooper defended his state title from last year, winning his race by 40 seconds; Kiera won by over 20 seconds to become the first woman’s state champion in SJND history (in any sport)! Her teammate Emily Perez ’19 placed 4th overall at State.

At the prior North Coast Section Championships, the men placed 2nd in the team results, and the women took 1st as a team (their second straight NCS Championship) to continue their impressive season. Cooper won the individual title at NCS in a time of 14:47 on the 3 mile course. Kiera won the NCS title and set a course D5 record running 17:08.

Next up for the medalists: Cooper will run in the Nike nationals this Saturday in Portland, and Kiera and Emily will head to the Footlocker regionals in Los Angeles.

Women's Tennis

Congratulations to Nikki Bermudez ’17 (Singles) and Aysha Hayes ’17 and Azaria Hayes ’19 (Doubles) for qualifying for the NCS Tennis Championships on November 15 and 16 at the Harbor Bay Club.

SJND women’s tennis sister duo Aysha and Azaria won the NCS D2 Doubles Tennis Championship, defeating Piedmont High in a three-set match. This is the second year in a row that SJND has captured the D2 Doubles title!

Aysha and Azaria were dominant all season. Aysha went a perfect 12-0 in the regular season, while Azaria was 11-0. The duo also won the Bay Counties League tournament before winning in the NCS tournament.
