Gisele Araujo '19 Selected for Elite Summer Opportunity in Washington, D.C.

Gisele Araujo '19 presented with the Semper Fidelis All-American honor.

Junior Gisele Araujo is headed to Quantico this summer. At the Athletic Awards Banquet on May 17, members of the U.S. Marine Corps revealed that Gisele is one of 96 students from across the nation selected for the Semper Fidelis All-American Program, an all-expenses paid opportunity to attend the Battle Won Academy in Washington, D.C. this July.

“It’s a huge honor to be one of the two California high schoolers accepted into the Semper Fidelis All-American Program and I look forward to attending the four-day Battles Won Academy in Washington, D.C. this summer,” Gisele explained. “Participating in workouts, service projects, a tour of the Nation’s Capital, and exploring the Marine Corps experience in Quantico is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and will provide me with a new lens for my interest in international relations. I’m grateful that Dr. Bailon encouraged me to apply for this program, and I will do my best to represent our SJND community!”

The Semper Fidelis All-American Program places a large emphasis on leadership, scholarship, service and athletics, recognizing high schoolers “who face life’s battles with the conviction and determination to succeed.” The program describes the selected participants as individuals who “embody the same fighting spirit that Marines stand for by taking on the challenges of succeeding academically while bettering their communities and excelling in athletics and extracurricular activities. They have turned obstacles into victories through drive and passion and will be recognized for their achievements at the exclusive Battles Won Academy.”

At SJND, Gisele is involved in a number of activities, including ASB, Model UN Club, the Interact service club and the Varsity Volleyball Team. Gisele’s volleyball coach, Coach Nicky Hagan, had the following the say about her:

“Gisele is a multi-talented young woman, whose diligence and dedication radiate in every aspect of her life. I am thrilled that she has the opportunity to participate in the Semper Fidelis All-American Program; I am so proud of her.”

Congratulations, Gisele!
