New Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Amei Papitto
SJND welcomes Ms. Amei Papitto to our Modern Languages Department this year. Ms. Papitto comes to SJND from Redwood High School in Larkspur, CA, and has taught in New Mexico, Europe, the East Coast and California. She received her M.A. in English, German and Portuguese Translation and Linguistics from the University of Heidelberg and a second M.A. in Spanish with a focus on Hispanic Literature from the University of Rhode Island.
Ms. Papitto has nearly 30 years of experience teaching Spanish, German, English, Social Studies and Art. As SJND’s Spanish 1 instructor, she says “I want my students to learn Spanish, but above all to gain confidence to accept themselves and be happy. My ideal classroom is a place where everybody helps everybody else and we advance together.”
When she’s not teaching, she spends time as an artist and is an active member of the Artists Guild of San Francisco, regularly showing and selling original pieces of her artwork (her website is ameiart.com). She attended art school for four years and her passion is painting with oil; she is also passionate about creative writing, script writing and filmmaking.
Ms. Papitto is married to a sculptor, Bruce Papitto. They have three children, Anders, a UC Berkeley graduate, Anna, who attends Berkeley, and Sophia who is starting at Berkeley this fall (Go Bears!). Ms. Papitto has a love for literature and traveling. She traveled to Ireland this summer and enjoyed the green pastures filled with sheep and horses, the cliffs and mountains, the pubs, and the beautiful gardens. She says, “I'm looking forward to my year at SJND!”
