Out of the Blocks - Track Team Update
The 2015 track season is off to a strong start. Here are results from some of the early season meets. Congrats to all of our runners, seasoned and new, many of whom are already running new personal records (PRs) in sprints, hurdles and distance events.
Dan Gabor Invitational, March 7, 2015
4x100M Allie Oilar ran one of the fastest times in first leg. Teammates, Elena Chai, Priscila Martinez and Aysha Hayes, all did outstanding work in their first relay race. The men also got off to a great start led by Ryan Duarte and Matthew Bacon and first timers Noah Whitley and a very fast Femi Ajose.
400M Madelyn LaFollette led the women Pilots with an early season time of 70.78. On the men’s side, Noah Whitley (67.15) and Dylan Goode (67.76) finished their first 400m race in good style.
100M The 100m races had over 30 heats in both the men’s and women’s races. Aysha Hayes (14.13) was quick off the blocks with an outstanding early season time. Avery Hahlweg was up next in 15.50 and Elena Chai (15.95) rounded out the ladies sprinters. On the men’s side, Femi Ajose (11.71) just missed the 20 by one place. Ormand Cooper (14.86) ran well with his heat in his first 100m race.
300M Hurdles Priscila Martinez (68.87) ran well in her first hurdles race. Ryan Duarte (47.14) looks to be one of the top hurdlers in the tough TCAL, and along with Matthew Bacon (50.32) will be looking to make NCS this year.
4x400M The men’s 4x400 team (4:42.76) did well. Ryan Duarte led off with a sub 60 split followed by first time runners Ormand Cooper, Noah Whitley and Dylan Goode.
800M Beatrice Levy (2:34.52), Kiera Marshall (2:40.14), Veronica Aguila (2:43) and Karina Duarte (2:45.24). The day’s highlight may have been Willie Mein running 2:02.50 (#13 of 232 runners) for a tremendous PR. Daniel Ratto ran a 2:07.42, winning his heat. Others running the 800 were Michael Murphy (2:09), Cooper Teare (2:10) and Connor Waterloo (2:22).
1600M In the 1600m, leading the Pilots was CIF state XC runner up Kiera Marshall with an outstanding time of 5:27.67 (8th out of 223 runners). Right behind her was Beatrice Levy (5:29.09) (12th of 223) both looking to run a low 5 minute mile by the end of the year. Up next was senior Veronica Aguila (5:44.47) and rounding out the milers was Theresa Killian (6:56.57) and Annie McGreehan (7:36). On the men’s side Cooper Teare led the pilots with a very fast early season time of 4:31.59 (28th out of 358 runners). Up next was Michael Murphy (4:38.93), Jackson Sundheim (4:59.39), Gavin Hill (5:07.98), and Ben Wiley in 6:01.41 his first mile race.
Dublin Distance Fiesta (distance event invitational): March 21, 2015
800M Karina Duarte had a 4-second PR time of 2:41.68 Willie and Daniel were in the 2nd fastest heat of the men’s 800m, with Willie coming in at 2:04.46 and a 2.5-second PR for Daniel in 2:04.91.
1600M Theresa had a PR of 6:48.49 followed by Annie with a PR by 34 seconds and a time of 7:01.61. Up next was Vero with an 8-second PR of 5:36.65, then Beatrice with a 7-second PR and a time of 5:23.12 (#21 rank among freshmen girls in CA, #17 in NCS). Ben got the guys started off with a 5-second PR running 5:44.42, and Connor with a 10-second PR running 5:14.85.
3200M Veronica Aguila clocked a 12:17.24. Kiera Marshall for the first time ran an 11:58 (#25 in NCS). Beatrice Levy came in at a remarkable 11:29.88, putting her at #3 on the all-time Freshmen list at the Dublin Distance Fiesta, #4 among all Freshmen this year in the state of California, and currently ranked #11 in the NCS. Cooper Teare had a remarkable 4th place finish running splits of roughly 4:45.46, 4:37.38, with a 2:15.16 for the last 800 meters for a time of 9:23.12 which is #46 nationally, #4 nationally for all sophomores, #24 currently in CA, and #2 in the NCS. Track records, indeed!
