It is with great sadness we share that Judy KoneffKlatt, or Mrs. KK, passed away on May 30, 2020. Judy was a dedicated teacher and activities director at SJND, as well as a proud mother to her four children Steven '97 (dec.), Vanessa '99, Nick '02, and Sam '06.
Judy committed her life to Catholic school education throughout the East Bay, serving several different schools, most recently St. Teresa School in Oakland. She was part of our Pilot Family from 1992 to 2006, where she taught Spanish and directed and coordinated the student activities.
Judy had the rare talent of bringing out the best in all her students. She was dedicated to her students in the classroom and in their leadership abilities. She trained and mentored student leaders to be creative, engaged, and present to the student body. Judy had a wonderful ability to integrate so many aspects of student life into the lives of the students: whether it was informative and entertaining assemblies, competitive magazine drives, spirit week, regular student dances, or Culture Day with activities to honor different cultures represented in the student body. She and the student leadership worked closely with the campus ministry program. Judy's strong faith was instrumental in guiding her and those around her. For example, Judy and Victor Valenzuela, when he was the campus minister, initiated the Kairos senior-retreat program for seniors, which has become a SJND tradition and a memorable experience for graduating seniors.
A strong, caring, and compassionate person, Judy had a special presence. She came to school every day filled with her boundless energy that permeated everything she did in the classroom and outside the classroom, affecting the students and her colleagues. She brought special insight to meetings that assisted in reviewing and revising codes of conduct and dress for the students as well as enhancing their educational experiences. She was fiercely dedicated to SJND and the young people to whom we ministered.
The family has asked if you would like to record a one minute video of a memory, story or moment from Judy's life to share at the viewing, please share here.
Mrs. KK was adored by the SJND community and will be sorely missed. May her spirit dance and sing amongst the angels in heaven. Please keep Judy and the KoneffKlatt family in your prayers.
