SJND Hosts a “December to Remember”
SJND is capping off 2017 with a number of exciting events this November and December. Below are recaps of some of these events.
Pilots Impress Audiences at Annual Winter Festival of the Arts
The SJND community came together for an evening of art, theater and music at the annual Winter Festival of the Arts on November 29. The audience was treated to performances from the bands and Musical Theater classes, as well as the SJND Glee Club, known as Vocal Rush. In addition, attendees enjoyed perusing the gallery of student work, including an art slide show, displays of art work from the advanced art classes and works from other art classes. A special thank you to the Visual and Performing Arts department for putting on a wonderful event!
The Real Queen of Hearts Ain’t Even Pretty
On November 30 through December 2, the Honors Theater: Play Production class performed, directed and designed a production of “The Real Queen of Hearts Ain’t Even Pretty,” a show that deals with the trials of teenage life set at a high school beauty pageant.
“[The students] have worked for three and a half months to oversee and create every element of this production from choosing the script to building their set. The final product is a testament to their talent, dedication and passion for theater,” explained theater teacher Lauren Rosi.
First-Annual Reindeer Run Is a Hit!
Over 170 runners turned out for SJND’s first-annual Reindeer Run, which took place along the water at beautiful Crab Cove in Alameda and included a 5K race, Christmas music by the SJND pep band and a visit from Santa. Runners who placed first, second and third in each division took home an official medal and the overall male and female winners scored a $100 gift card. All proceeds supported SJND and the Alameda Food Bank. We hope to see even more Pilots in attendance at next year’s event!

SJND Hosts Carols and Cocoa to Kick Off the Advent Season
On December 4, students, parents and faculty joined together to witness Father George bless the nativity scene and enjoy cookies and cocoa while SJND’s own Praise and Worship group serenaded the attendees with Christmas carols.
