Spring Update from Principal Simon Chiu
Dear Alumni, Families and Friends,
There are many wonderful achievements to celebrate as well as a few changes at SJND this spring.
Our spring musical, The Wedding Singer, just wrapped up a very successful two week run. My thanks to all of our student performers, parent volunteers and our talented director and teacher, Ms. Lauren Rosi, for her tireless dedication to our students and our theater program.
Many of our students participated in and earned honors at the Alameda County Science Fair in March. Special congratulations to Emily Stehr and Rachel Hungerford, whose project earned several awards, and to our very own Ms. Laura Zamora, who was voted Alameda County Science Fair Teacher of the Year.
This spring, we are also celebrating a very positive midterm review of our six-year accreditation from our WCEA/WASC school accreditation team. We received praise about a number of program and organizational developments including strategic planning and business practice, professional development, common core alignment, technology and, central to all we do, several curricular enhancements and additions.
Our Principal Search Committee, led by Father George and Board of Trustees Chair Abe Hitti, are facilitating the search for SJND’s next principal. We also have a hiring committee in place for other open positions for next year. On that note, Kris White, our Assistant Principal of Academics, has announced he will not be returning to SJND next year. I am deeply grateful for the great work he has done during his four years at SJND. We invite you to view and share this and other job postings for next year.
Finally, I hope everyone in our community—alumni, parents and interested community members--will make time to join us for the Community Feedback Meeting about the SJND Mission Statement and Student Outcomes Thursday, April 16 from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Library. Please RSVP. Full meeting details here.
As May approaches, we look forward to honoring the Class of 2015 with many events, including the Senior Presentation Assembly, Senior Awards Night, Baccalaureate Liturgy and, of course, Commencement. This is an exciting time for seniors as they receive their college acceptance letters and look forward to celebrating their time here at SJND. And we all look forward to welcoming our seniors as the newest members of our alumni community.
