Two Exciting Academic Immersion Trips Planned at SJND
Students have the opportunity to study the history of the U.S. Civil Rights movement in the American South, as well as the chance to travel to Peru and explore Machu Picchu and the Amazon jungle as part of two upcoming academic immersion trips planned at SJND. The school will offer 5 units of high school credit for each of the trips.
There are upcoming meetings for the Civil Rights trip, known as Sojourn to the Past, which will be over Spring Break 2014 and take students on a tour of the American South to hear from some of our country’s Civil Rights leaders. The director of the Sojourn to the Past program will be on campus Dec. 5 to describe the trip to juniors and seniors during Collaboration.
In addition, there will be an informational meeting for parents and students about the Sojourn to the Past trip on Dec. 11 in Room 202, Marianist Hall. The meeting is 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., so that parents who plan to attend the Winter Arts Festival will have time to do both.
Meanwhile, families can request more information on the Peru trip, which will be in April 2015. Science Chair Mrs. Taylor is leading a group on an 11-day trip that will allow students to explore many of the historical, cultural, and ecological sites, including Machu Picchu and the Amazon jungle.
Our tour leaves from SFO on March 31, 2015, and returns on Friday, April 10. The current cost of the trip with all taxes, transportation (airfare from SFO and all travel while in Peru), lodging, most meals, bilingual guides, expeditions, activities, and entrance fees is $3,410, if a deposit is placed now. Monthly payments are available.
Students will meet during a few Collaborations to learn about Peru and the Amazon jungle. In addition, students will complete a travel journal while on the trip and turn in a reflection paper when they return.
