Women's Lacrosse: Season Finishes in Style

Alameda Lacrosse Club's Girls High School team, which includes eight Pilot women, won the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association Championship on Saturday, May 9 in a thrilling final match against the San Jose Extreme. Alameda won its first two playoff games earlier in the day against Chico and Stockton, advancing to the final against San Jose, who had handed Alameda its only loss of the regular season the week before. Alameda jumped to a 9-4 lead against San Jose at halftime, and then scored two quick goals at the beginning of the second half to make it 11-4. Incredibly, San Jose scored the next 8 goals, to take a 12-11 lead with four minutes remaining in the game. Alameda tied it up and then scored again as time was winding down, winning the nail-biter 13-12.

Alameda's regular season record was 13-1-2. Led by Head Coach Hannah Scott, with assistance from Beth McMahon-Wise and Steve Rochlin, the Alameda team comprises young women from 10 different schools in the area. Pilot women include incoming freshman Teagan Waterloo, Katherine Carino, Taylor Gordon, Isabella Mayfield, Mary Carmen Reid, Rebecca Rochlin, Brooke Tyler and Miracris Villanueva. SJND's Rebecca Rochlin was one of four Alameda players named as All-Stars in ceremonies at Sunday's event.
