Join the Heritage Circle: Leave a Legacy

We invite you to join fellow alumni and build a lasting legacy by including Saint Joseph Notre Dame in your estate plans. We are so grateful for alumni and friends who are members of SJND’s Heritage Circle, a special group of supporters who choose to include our school in their wills or trusts or to designate SJND as a beneficiary of, IRAs, retirement plans, or insurance policies.

To have a conversation or get more information about ways to remember SJND in your estate plans, please contact Mollie McFarland, Assistant Principal of Institutional Advancement, at (510) 995-9456 or

Planned Giving Options

Bequests: A gift provided in your will or trust may be a percentage of your estate, the residue of the estate, a certain item, or a specific dollar amount. You may find that your estate taxes are reduced through a bequest to SJND.

Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT):  This tax-exempt irrevocable trust is designed to reduce your taxable income by first dispersing income to the you or other beneficiaries of the trust for a specified period of time and then donating the remainder of the trust to SJND.

Charitable Lead Trust: This trust allows you to pass on assets to family members with significant estate and gift tax savings while allowing SJND to benefit from the income for the duration of the trust.

Gifts of Real Estate: A gift of real estate provides considerable tax benefits. You also have the option of retaining the right to occupy the property for life or even to receive the income it generates.

Gifts of Life Insurance, Pension Benefits: A gift of life insurance allows you to contribute a previously acquired policy that may no longer be needed for its initial purpose and realize tax benefits. SJND may also be named as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, company pension or profit-sharing plan, or of a private fund such as an IRA, Keogh or tax-sheltered annuity.
